Not the best sushi place in the Twin Cities, but still pretty good.

I'm not a huge hibachi grill fan but love sushi. My husband and I met my brother, his wife and daughter for dinner here. My husband and I ordered a sampler of sashimi. We also shared the land and sea meal for two which had filet mignon, chicken, scallops, lobster and shrimp. Pros: I have to say that this place has the best fried rice I have ever had at a hibachi grill. The waitress was very attentive and the chef was very nice. Cons: Our sampler of sashimi did not come with rice?.. The fried rice is an up charge of $5 each without being told (not sure if that's on the menu but I've never been charged additional for fried rice) Overall, the meal was decent. I would return to this specific steakhouse maybe when my youngest two children are old enough for the entertainment. Totally worth the stop here if you've never been or really like this type of place.

Ok I gave it a fair shot. Tried this place 2 or 3 times and it didn't make the cut. This past time o went here I was hungry and ready to try different options. We dined here during peak lunch hours on a weekday. There were only about 6-7 tables and service was sllooooowww. Thumbs up: -friendly service, but slow service -private and street parking -located in a great town and around shops Thumbs down: -the food is mediocre at best -poor presentation to quality to pricing -sushi rice had way too much vinegar in it. Rolls were not wrapped tight and fell a part, seaweed salad looked like green ooze was holding up the salad. Couldn't even wipe the plate clean for the price and location and ambience. -bathrooms were not that clean -tempura was soggy -they were not able to accommodate to vegetarian options. They weren't going to make you happy at all with substitutions, additions, you name it not happening. -water had a bad tap taste to it All in all I wouldn't go here unless I had to attend. So much hope, but not enough happening.

we had tried mt. fuji a few years ago and we were not impressed, but being the forgiving people we are, we decided to give it another try and were yet again disappointed. our first sign should have been when we walked in on a friday night and only 3 other tables were taken. everyone knows maple grove on a friday night means you always have to wait for a table. the best thing that we ordered was the kani salad. we ordered 7 different sushi rolls and they were mediocre at best. the sushi rice was not seasoned with the vinegar so it was VERY bland. the fish tasted less than fresh and even our ginger garnish was dry. even tho the restaurant was not packed we had to "find" our waiter twice. we ordered 2 appetizer salads, 7 rolls and 2 lg sake. bill was $94. what a waste. We will never be back. the icing on the cake was the table next to us, of drunk 1st year medical residents talking in graphic detail about women giving birth. (I know that was not fujis fault, but it just made the experience that much more awesome)

Hibachi and Sushi is not bad, but the service is terrible! My last visit to the place was 6 months ago. Few times I've go there for dinner with reservation in advanced and we had to wait additional 1 hour+ and still won't seat us. I asked them two times when will we be given seats when there are empty hibachi tables available and was told both times another 10-20 minutes which never happened. Both times were for special occasions dinner and I've noticed there was a lady who also has been waiting to be seated for a long time and was very frustrated too. She later give up and left! I also ended up leaving after waiting over 1hr+ and went to Benihana in Maple Grove and I only waited 30mins and we were all happy because we finally get to eat dinner. I don't know why they won't give us the seats at the empty Hibachi tables and also there were so many empty regular tables too having customer like myself and their family wait for this long period even though I have made the reservation in advanced is totally unacceptable! For that reason I don't go back there anymore. I rather go to Benihana for hibachi or Kyoto who's also near by.

I've been here a few times. I'm just not impressed with their sushi rolls. The rice on the rolls don't taste like sushi rice. They use way too much rice on their rolls too. The setting and decor is nice though. I like walking in and forgetting I'm in MG. I give the. 5 stars for that.

  • Caitlin H.

It took them 30 mins to seat is at hibachi (after we even had a reservation) and 10 mins to take our drinks orders where they had us sit to wait for a hibachi table. Also there were 4 other people in the restaurant. We had to remind the hibachi griller twice to give us our shrimp sauce. If they would have apologized about the wait we would have been less upset.

Was there last night with a group of friends.... Terrible service, pop was watered down and happy hour didn't count around the hibachi......won't be going back

This was my third time there. The first 2 times were fine but this last time was just not that great! It was a Tuesday night and there was no one but my sister in law and I in one table and another party of 4 men. We placed our order, got our sushi at a timely manner. I ordered the winter roll expecting it to be crunchy, but very disappointed that it was really soggy and hot. I was in a rush to leave but the waitress never came to us (remember that they only have us and another party), so I decided to go look for them. They were all sitting in one of those private room eating. I didn't want to be rude so I stood from afar trying to get someone's attention to let them know I was ready. Finally I caught someone's attention and the waitress came out. She gave us our to go boxes and took our bill. We both paid cash so the waitress took the bill and left for about 10 minutes. My sister in law was wondering if the waitress thought all the left over money was the tip? So again, I went walking around and saw that she was going through her purse trying to find change for us. My thought was, if there's no one but us and another party, shouldn't we receive the best service? !

Awful from start to finish. Let me begin with their request to "please sit at bar" while you wait...only once you sit at the bar, no one helps you or asks you if you'd like a drink... Then we move on to be seated at the hibachi table. This table has not been cleared and is sticky from top to bottom. Crumbs in every visible crevice. My boots even stick to the floor. We are one of two parties in the entire restaurant and the table isn't clear or clean?!? The hibachi experience is all over the place. The soup, which tastes like dirty dishwater, is served right with the salad. Your entree comes first, then the shrimp appetizer...complete with sand vein aka shrimp poo still intact... And then you get vegetables LAST. Horrible!!!! And we had to tell our server three times that we needed change after paying with a hundred dollar bill.

Should be zero stars...Just walked out after sitting an hour at a grill with no service...do not go here...terrible service...can't tell you about the food as after an hour waiting without food or drinks we got up and walked out.

Fried rice is a good alternative to the hibachi if you don't need the soup and salad--at a great price, too.

  • Monaco C.

Their sashimi size was generous; however, I've had better sushi, and definitely better teriyaki dishes. The size of our teriyaki lunch was tiny and it seemed over cooked. We also ordered shrimp tempura but they only put two pieces of it mixed with fried vegetables for over $6! They should have mentioned that! They TRiED to do a good job with service... But the staff seemed like they were fighting in the front.

  • Jon S.

My family and I used to frequent this establishment often. The lunch hibachi prices are second to none. However, I've noticed a decline in the quality of service as time has moved on. We have had a couple issues with rude greeters and they have botched our order on more than one occasion. I will say, the chefs who do Hibachi are always very respectful. Try it out for lunch, definitely, but be aware, the servers can be off-putting.

  • Karen S.

Awful!!! From the service to the food to the sticky table...we will never go back! What a disappointing experience. We couldn't even eat our food as it was rubbery and over sauced. We sat for at least 15 minutes before anyone asked us if we'd like something to drink. Then the food was terrible. We've eaten a lot of sushi over the years, but this was by far the worst. After we paid, the manager came and found us before we left and offered to give us free vouchers for the next visit. We kindly declined, as there won't be any future visits.

The best all around sushi joint in MG; selection/options, quality, price, service, etc. The service is usually pretty good and it never seems to be overly busy, which I enjoy. There usually are more folks stopping in for take out than there are in the dining room. I've never done hibachi seating, so I can't speak to that, but the sushi rolls are pretty affordable and tasty, much better than Zushiya across the street. Dining for two? I recommend ordering two of the specialty rolls (Maple Grove roll and Treasure Island are my faves) and two or three of the basic rolls (spicy tuna/salmon/Philly). Wash that down with a tall Kirin or Sapporo and you've both got a belly full for under $50.

  • Noelle B.

My husband and I went here more often than we (or our bank account) would like to admit when we lived in the area. It's always been consistently good, and we especially love ordering nigiri as the fish portions are pretty generous. It's one of the generally more affordable sushi places in the metro - the specialty rolls may not be *quite* as adventurous as those that you'd find at Zushiya or Masu (if you're looking for an upscale, exotic sushi experience, this isn't the place), but we've never been disappointed by anything we've ordered, and the atmosphere is quiet and relaxing. Pro tip: get there during happy hour on weeknights to save a couple bucks on some of the specialty rolls.

  • Nicole B.

The service was okay, atmosphere is a mix between a nice sushi place and a Perkins, but, what lowers my review is a fishy taste. My friend and I ordered 2 appetizers, the baked avocado with crab (yum!) and edamame (average). For sushi we got three rolls. The Maple Grove roll was okay, I didn't love the crunch inside and was surprised it had no rice or seaweed. The No. 9 was good, but probably would have been better with some kind of sauce. Also, the rolls were huge in diameter, so I could barely fit it in my mouth. The Green Tea Roll had some very fishy tastes. I only ate one piece. The roll pieces were also too big- I couldn't eat it without choking. Given that cutting technique and the fishy taste, I would not come back. I've eaten at over 20 different sushi places in the Twin Cities, this would be near the bottom.

Because I had a good experience last time, I tried MT Fuji again. I was very disappointed. We had a very nice, younger chef and he terribly overcooked our shrimp. It was dry and tough. There is no excuse for this, shrimp cooks VERY quickly. I considered it a waste of money!

I am not a big sushi fan, but when I get a craving it has to be satisfied. Mt Fuji settled my beast within. I ordered the sushi lunch and my friends all ordered the box lunch. Both looked wonderfully delicious! The salad that came with my lunch was small but good. I still wonder what that sweet aromatic dressing was. The sushi was fun to eat. it was 6 different kinds of fish (and shrimp). with just the right amount of wasabi for me. The sushi lunch was enough to satisfy my hunger, but next time I think I will get the box lunch. It looked too good to pass up. I'm definitely coming back here.

I had a hankering for sushi and decided to hit up Mt Fuji with a few friends. I've lived in Maple Grove for nearly 4 years and this was the first time I've eaten here. It's located in Arbor Lakes, right down Main Street. Parking is pretty easy; you can park on the street or in the back in the large parking lot. Right when you walk in, you notice the spacious dining room and the water feature in the middle of the restaurant. There is a small bar right next to the sushi bar. We were seated right away and ordered hot tea. The menu has the usual suspects and I decided that I wanted something warm. I found the Nabe Yaki Udon noodle soup bowl and I had to try the sushi; so, I got the Spider Roll (one of my favorites anywhere I go for sushi). The udon noodles came with chicken, fish cake, egg, and vegetable in vegetable broth and shrimp tempura. The broth was very clean, crisp and quite refreshing; not loaded with salt and MSG. The vegetables were fresh and the noodle were cooked well. This was a simple dish and a perfect way to keep warm on a cold Minnesota day. The Spider Roll was alright; I've had better in downtown Minneapolis and Uptown. This is a decent place for a quick lunch, but I think it was could have been better; especially given the fact that my lunch was $25 (I expected better).

My husband and I are huge Sushi roll lovers and this is by far our favorite place to go! We have been to several other Sushi restaurants in the surrounding areas to try something different and we are always disappointed. We share an appetizer and two sushi rolls every time and it is the perfect amount of food for us and the bill comes out to be around 30$. More if we order drinks. I highly recommend the Kani Salad and The Spicy Girl Roll. We get it EVERY time! Great food and great service every time. The atmosphere is usually pretty relaxed and quiet which we love, unless there is a group in the hibachi room. We have never done the hibachi at Mt. Fuji. Their Sushi rolls are just too good to pass up :) YUMMMMMMMM!

Not so good. We did hibachi and the chef wasn't very good and screwed up several of our orders. Not impressed.

I ate lunch here a couple of weeks ago and had a horrible experience. There was hair in 3 of our entrees, waitress was rude and aloof when we complained. We had to get our own silverware and appetizer plates. Will not go back.

  • Jacky W.

The down and dirty: the happy hour prices are GREAT. The fish is NOT. It's not the worst, so long as you aren't looking for any taste/flavor to your fish. That being said, whatever they put into the Lake Calhoun roll almost redeemed them. Otherwise, it just wasn't an impressive experience. Our server was extremely nice but extremely flaky. We had to ask her for things several times (more water, more tea, our check - despite the fact that we had finished 20 minutes prior AND had our credit card out while she walked past our table at least 8 times). I wouldn't necessarily go back unless I'm pinching pennies and want some mediocre sushi.

  • Lan F.

They were having problems with their air exchanger for their hibachi and it was like sitting on a patio on a cold October night. We had to move table 2 times to find a place that didn't have a draft. The sushi was great but wish I had my parka that night.

  • Andy T.

This may seem ridiculous but to me it says a lot. I wanted to give four star and honestly struggled giving twp stars. The service, the food were just average. I was enjoying my first experience until my wife used the women's restroom. She said that the bathroom is disgusting, dirty. I was sceptical at first but then used the men's room. Wow I thought. Men's rooms are typically not tidy but this was gross and clearly neglected. Sticky floors, the urinal had something green in it and the toilet paper holder was lying on the floor. The sink likey has never been cleaned and they're too lazy to put the paper towels in the dispenser. It makes me wonder what kind of care they give their sushi bar or kitchen. You may think I'm weird but I'm not coming back if they went clean the very bathroom the employees use as well as patrons.

Our favorite place to dine in busy Maple Grove. I will not eat shrimp anywhere but here and I could drink their yummy sauce!!

Great sushi, great food, the teppanyaki chef's are better than most others that I've experienced, plus the service is excellent. I don't think I've had better or more friendly service anywhere, at least recently. You have 3 options for seating. 1. Choose to sit at a grill and get the food cooked right in front of you by one of the happy fun chef's. 2. Settle in at a normal booth or table and have a common sit down meal. 3. Grab a seat at the sushi bar. There is also a tiny little bar right as you walk in that has I think 6 stools, whoever gets one of these spots must be very very special. I like this place! Note: Very kid friendly, the chef's are great with kids!

  • Dave C.

We ate in the teppan grill room, which is separate from the rest of the restaurant. The room was brightly lit, and reminded me of a cafeteria. The bright lighting made it clear that the restaurant was quite clean. The food was good and the cook was skilled and entertaining. Unfortunately, very little thought was given to the acoustics of this room. The tiled floor, glass on the walls, and a relatively low suspended ceiling caused all sound to be bounced and amplified. This was not the kind of experience I expected and brings my rating down.

Food isn't so greasy... Service is horrible!!! All the waitress watch u eat it food like hawks....

The sushi is actually pretty good here... personally better than Benihana's (sorry I have to review compare but had to state it). This is a tight seating place with bigger booths. Good for sushi and meeting a friend after work to catch up over rolls and wine (which is exactly what we did). Downfall... no happy hour or specials that are run - it is what it is... Bonus... great sushi and adorable atmosphere.

    (4)
  • Char L.

Nice decor. The waitress was very aloof and she probably wanted to be somewhere else. As for the food... Hot Tea - Never had tea served in such a gigantic mug. Bit odd to be honest. Seaweed salad - a bit too sweet with the sauce coating. Black Dragon Roll - Eel overload. Insane value for the amount of eel you get. Great presentation! Bit too much sauce. Crazy Tuna Roll - The black pepper overshadowed the tuna completely. Can't taste the spicy tuna at all. Overall disappointing. Green Tea Ice Cream - Ice cream was good and creamy. No complaints.

  • Jennifer Y.

The sushi is wonderful - especially for the prices! I've visited just about every sushi bar/restaurant in town, & this is the best sushi based on taste & value. The shrimp tempura roll - awesome! My personal favorite! The philly roll & asparagus roll - delicious! I'll have to admit that when I ordered the Shrimp Tempura entrée, I was a little disappointed. A little too greasy & the tempura dipping sauce was bland. But if you are just going here for the sushi, you will be pleasantly surprised!

    (5)
  • Jim G.

Eh, very so-so sushi. The prices are reasonable though. I had the sushi and sashimi combo which was uninspired (salmon, yellowtail, and tuna with a spicy tuna roll) and tasteless. The good news is that it was only $23 (about 16 pieces, I think). I won't be going back, just not worth the calories.

  • Ngoc N.

This is not a full review, but I just wanted to say... The green tea ice cream tastes like soap. And it comes out ugly. They literally scoop it out and put it on dish. It's not even made into a nice round ball. It's just a curled up scoop that came from a tub of ice cream. Not even a mint leaf!! I'm just bitter because I was in the area and I wanted green tea ice cream. That's all I ordered. :(

We did a quick drop in at Mt. Fuji with the kids last Monday night (when we were up in Maple Grove). We took advantage of their happy hour specials, a couple hand rolls, a few regular rolls, along with an order of the shrimp tempura. We were in early (about 5pm), so we were some of the only people in there. My 5 yr old loved the place, it has a little river and koi ponds in there, so it's fun for the kids. The food was pretty good. I wouldn't say it's the best sushi I've ever had, but its nice, affordable and family friendly.

let me state first- i love sushi. I normally rate Japanese joints by their sashimi, but this was part of a road trip and we just weren't digging any fast food; so "rolls to go" was our next best fit. That being said: this review is only based on what we had on this one time drive by. We ordered the winter, maple grove (my fav!), smoked salmon, route 55 (part of their specials that day- was meh bc we didn't expect it to be deep fried), & black dragon- yelpers claimed it to have tons of eel :T twas good but not as monstrously loaded as expected. Generous compared to other places just because the excess eel portion that would normally be cut off and used elsewhere by sushi chefs was left on- so there was a squabble over who'd eat the end pieces :) Food was good. Decor was cute. Area was nice. Overall, I'd swing by again.

  • Greg T.

They weren't busy at all (almost empty), but it took a very long time to get a table. The interior is a bit dark and greasy; it could use a scrub down. I tried the sushi sampler plate. The only decent fish I tasted was the tuna. The rice was over-seasoned as well. I won't go again for the sushi. There were some other plates that looked good that I might try.

  • Camille L.

I LOVE the chef's special sushi rolls at this place! The crazy tuna roll, tiger roll with shrimp tempura and eel rolls are all delicious. They also have a good happy hour. We have always gotten seated right away in the dining room during happy hour, dinner, and lunch. It's one of the better sushi places in the suburbs.

  • Patrick M.

I've had sushi at more places than I can remember everywhere across the US and in Korea. That being said, this place is OK, but I have had much better. Their rolls are hit and miss. The Volcano roll is good. But in general, the rolls are kind of bland and not very exciting. If they tried to be a little bit more daring with the textures and flavors, it could be much better. For example, the Maple Grove roll if practically all salmon--tasty salmon--but that's it. It really needed something else to break up the flavor and texture of the fish. The atmosphere of the place is quiet and cozy. They have a water fountain in the middle of the floor that can be a little distracting. But I get the aesthetic. They have party rooms in the back for special reservations and large groups. They have a typical assortment of Asian beer and wines.

Minnesota is not home to many Asian restaurants. Let alone Japanese cuisine. So don't be surprised that you have to drive a ways to find this gem. 30-45 minutes outside of the Twin Cities is a town called Maple Grove, MN. In it, you will find decent shopping, great atmosphere, and of course good eats! Mt. Fuji is probably ONE of the best sushi places in or around the Twin-Cities. Its peaceful environment is only broken up by the sound of flowing water and the patrons' conversations. Its an ideal place to take a date, or bring your friends. The wait-staff is extremely friendly, even on busy days. And for its size, that's pretty impressive. But how is the food? The food. If we're talking sushi, then you're speaking my language! I recommend Maple Grove roll, Winter Roll, and the Samurai roll. I usually get the unagi (eel) bento box (my fave!), as well. And the creme de la creme would be the deep fried mochi ice cream. ITS GOOD! But they may not have that anymore Mt. Fuji also serves Teppanyaki (Japanese BBQ) which I still yet have to try. This restaurant may be a little pricey, but you most def get what you pay for. After all, its ONE of the best in MN. I Decree; Once you find this place, no other sushi spot in MN will compare. Its that good!

Haven't had sushi in awhile so when the craving came up this place popped up. Keep in mind this is only a review for the sushi and not for the habachi that they also have in the back. Perhaps at some point i will come back and give that a shot. Hell, I would come back for the eel alone! As far as the variety we tried, we had the Black Dragon Roll, the Tiger Roll, the Smoked Salmon Roll, and some other cheap roll that i can't remember off the top of my head. You can see and taste the difference in the quality and presentation for the type of roll you order. Anything off the Chef's specialities comes out in perfectly plated sushi, while the cheaper rolls are just placed on a plate with ginger and wasabi. If you like eel, the Black Dragon was one of the best i've had. Even my friends, who were skeptical, were impressed and enjoyed the flavorful and tenderness of the eel. Did i mention i like eel?

Not the tastiest. The sushi needed a sauce to taste good. The steak was good but not great at the price point.

I use to go here every couple months. I like the sushi there. It's ok for being around the neighborhood. The last time we went on a Sunday after a football game we ordered sushi and my son and I both got sick and was in the restroom for the next 2 days. We won't be returning anymore.

This restaurant had been on my bookmarks list for some time for the sushi. I asked my father to pick from my list of restaurants I've never been to and this is the one he selected since it is close. My family doesn't eat sushi, so we sat at the hibachi grill. They ordered steak, shrimp, and chicken and really enjoyed it. I ordered a sushi combo plate of rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. The sushi was fresh, well presented, and delicious. I had thought about ordering a la carte but the server didn't have a slip for me to put the order on and seemed to be in a bit of a hurry so I just went with the combo. I also enjoy sake and was rather surprised to find out they only had house hot and cold sake. It was strange to me that a sushi joint wouldn't have more sake on hand. The hibachi chef was friendly and put on a good show for my family. After we were all done eating, I hadn't even finished the last of the sake when we were asked to move so someone else could have the table. They suggested that we talk at the bar. I understand that they only have a few hibachi tables and they are in higher demand, but their very modest bar was completely full, so they were essentially throwing us out after we spent some pretty decent coin. Again, I completely understand they don't want people loitering around at the hibachi table but we had JUST finished eating and still had our drinks. At least they were polite about it. All things considered I would definitely go back for the sushi bar, or maybe a regular table. Go for the excellent sushi, but don't expect much in the way of atmosphere or service. It's not that they do a bad job, but they could do much better.

When this place opened I wasn't so sure about this place. Their servers waited on everyone, everywhere, without the typical 'section map.' This worked well while you were ordering and eating, but no one seemed to want to get you the check or more water, or whatever. That was my only gripe, as the sushi was creative, fresh and....good. Four years later, things seem better. I was here for lunch on a weekday. I sat at the sushi bar and everything was smooth and fast. We ordered the Spicy Girl, the Fuji I, a Philly and a couple maki rolls. I didn't like the Spicy Girl or the Fuji I much, but that was because I don't like sushi that is basically crab salad rolled in seaweed. That's not their issue though. Presentation was beautiful and the chefs were quick. I have nothing to complain about. Well, okay. They have this weird water thing with a wheel in the middle of the restaurant that I have always found odd, and it's still there. But that's it. Great sushi.

I came here because i read about happy hour here. The servings for the chef's suggested rolls are quite large. Pretty good quality. It is a good place to try with a group so you can try more. (and the drinks seem value) I also ordered the agedashi tofu, which was not the typical agedashi tofu i was expecting (they seemed to not use egg? so the skin was clear?) probably not recommend it. Prices during happy hour are reasonable, but i probably wouldn't have come at another time by myself. recommend this place for a group - and get the chef's special rolls.

Strong 4 stars. As a lone business traveler, I sat at the sushi bar. I'm from San Francisco area, so people always think I have some higher standard. Thing is, you can get plenty of bad sushi no matter how close you are to the ocean. And I have had plenty of good sushi well into the heartland. This place had good presentation, flavor, and freshness, and Patrick, the chef was engaging and friendly. To me that is a huge plus. I don't want to sit at the sushi bar and not say anything, I want to chat about this roll or that roll, the weather, etc. I didn't even have to ask, he would see me admiring some roll, and would tell me the name. I ordered a dragon roll, a yellow tail scallion roll, and a spider roll. All were very good. highly recommended.

I was in Minneapolis on a trip with my family and we went here for lunch one day. Very affordable, and so very good. Our teppanyaki chef was personable and just the right amount of talkative. We got to sit down right away and our orders were taken immediately. It was a bit of a wait for the teppanyaki chef to arrive but it was definitely worth the wait. We all either ordered steak and shrimp hibachi or salmon and shrimp hibachi. The steak was absolutely to die for. If I remembered my dreams, I'm sure I dreamt about this steak. It was moist, flavorful, and extremely delicious. The fried rice was good, as were the shrimps and vegetables. We also got a rainbow roll and spider roll. Both were really good but nothing to write home about (to be fair, I have had more than my fair share of rainbow and spider rolls in my day). The steak hibachi is definitely the best thing about this place. Great place, good ambience, great chefs and service, great food. A+!

Hibachi was very entertaining, food was really good. Tried the teriaki chicken, scallops and the fillet mignon. The steak was amazing! Our chef was really funny and we all had a great time!

Honestly, don't even bother going here unless you are going to eat the Treasure Island Roll. It has blue crab, eel, tuna & yellowtail. And this delcious crunchy tempura batter stuff.. And a spicy (well..kind of spicy) sauce. We also had Gyoza, the Spicy Yellowtail roll (If you are trying to eat on the cheap, I would stick with that one.) & the dumpling soup. It was all fantastic. The only place I've ate with sushi this good was Sakura. Mt. Fuji is a bit of a hike, seeing as it is in Maple Grove. The basic rolls are pretty affordable, but the $50 we spent was worth every penny. And they deliver!

The sushi seems interesting, they seem to have a lot of different types of sushi, but I didn't get a chance to try anything other then a piece of a spider roll which was good, but nothing out of the We went for the Hibachi which was equal to Ichibans, but I like Ichibans performance and atmosphere better, let alone its a much shorter drive. The good: The food was awesome, I usually hate, and I mean HATE zucchini, I loved it here, tasted like candy. The bad: The waiter was kind of slow Get the steak and scallops!!!

Fabulous sushi, tempura and pretty much everything else. If you go during happy hour, you will leave with both you wallet and stomach full. Man that was cheesy.

The hibachi is fun, the sushi is delicious. Solid japanese restaurant. We went there for my birthday dinner once and frankly the place seemed kind of dead. But the service was attentive and the food was good so, no complaints. If I were in the mood for japanese, I would probably pick a place that's closer, but would be more than happy to drop by if I was in Maple Grove. Plus: They seem to send coupons in the mail fairly regularly.

My daughter and I eat at Mt. Fuji almost once a week - to say it's a "family favorite" would be an understatement. We love the restaurant - because she can get Habachi at the regular tables - and I can get Mt. Fuji's incredible Sashimi and creative sushi rolls. Everything from the miso soup, potstickers (regular and shrimp), gingery/garlicky salad dressing, edemame and the fried rice that accompanies the habachi is great. The sashimi is always fresh and well sized - the wait staff is always friendly and attentive. The wine list is so-so - but the sake is good. We are big fans!!

We didn't expect much because usually when we eat at a sushi place, we're usually disappointed by the rolls. A huge plus is that they had that private room with the sliding doors, those we're pretty cool! Anyway, back to the rolls; they made them REALLY GOOD! We ordered so many rolls that we couldn't even finish our main course! The only iffy thing about this was that it was sort of pricey compared to places back in California, I guess because there's not much Japanese cuisine over there.

Everyone else seems to love this place for the sushi. The sushi may be great; I haven't tried that. What I *did* try was the Hibachi (LOVE me some Hibachi) and boy, was it every a huge disappointment. Overly salty, dry, bland (which may explain the salt). Service was good and the atmosphere is nice. I'm willing to give it a second try and will change my review if my opinion of the food changes.

I have to agree with the other 5stars. Mt. Fuji is really good. While everyone else ate hibachi, I tried out the sushi, and was totally shocked by the menu. Great variety, and excellent plating. My son was excited by the chef's show, and I even caught the shrimp in my mouth (on the first try!). Another winner in Maple Grove.

Great food - this is the third time that I've been here and the sushi has been consistently good. Tonight we had a salmon roll, Maple Grove roll, Thousand Island roll, and the Black Dragon roll, preceded by house salads and shrimp gyoza. The salad was cold and fresh with just the right amount of dressing, and the gyoza was OK. The fish in the sushi was fresh and clean, and the eel in the Black Dragon roll was very sweet, though the chef was heavy on the eel sauce. By far the favorite of the night was the Maple Grove roll, which was less of a sushi roll and more of a sashimi roll, as there was no rice. That gave it a funky texture, but a great combination of crab, salmon, and avocado. My only complaint would be the service - there was only one server for about 9 tables, and she was harried. The server also kept a cart for dirty dishes right in the dining room, and she wasn't quiet when using it.

We went here for the happy hour, but the happy hour is only Monday through Thursday. We ended up staying because we didn't feel like driving to another place. We ordered the crazy tuna roll ($12.95) and shrimp yaki udon ($15.95). Love the shirmp yaki udon. It was flavorful and had a ton of veggies like pea pods, carrots, onions and three different kinds of mushroom. The crazy tuna roll was just okay, nothing special. It was small and salty and not worth the price. I will have to update the review once I've had the happy hour specials since everyone seems to have liked the happy hour.

We went at dinner time on a Tuesday, and didn't have to wait for a table even though it was pretty full. I think they really want to move you through at this restaurnt- we had been sitting less than a minute and the waitress wanted to take our order. She checked back like every-other minute until we decided. We had green tea, treasure island, and volcano rolls. Nice presentation on all. I thought the green tea tasted ok; my brother liked it a lot. There was SO MUCH fried crunchy tempura crumbs all over the treasure island rolls and plate, it was like snow. If you like fried flavor, this is the roll for you. I wasn't so keen on it. The volcano was supposed to be made with spicy tuna, but it wasn't spicy, and very homogenous in texture. It looked cute though, like little pink wizzard hats. A bit on the pricy side.

Not a bad Japanese restaurant in a mall in suburban Minneapolis. It would be 3 stars in a coastal city but the fish was surprisingly good being so far from an ocean.

ordered take-out (delivery!) sushi for lunch yesterday... again, fantastic sushi, fantastic service. The order was: rainbow roll, spider roll, and the host roll. This time, the host roll stole the show. Innovative explosion of flavors! The delivery was relatively quick considering it was a sushi order, and the fish/shellfish inside the sushi and the sashimi atop the rolls was fresh and "healthy" in appearance (sushi connoisseurs, you know what I mean!). I wish I lived in Maple Grove so I could order delivery every day for lunch, LOL.

Really fun place to eat. I would have given it 5 stars, but our server was really slow. One thing you will notice is that everyone who works there is constantly moving and at a brisk pace. That is why I was surprised that our server struggled to attend to us in a timely manner. The cooks at the hibachi station are AWESOME. So much fun and very talented. That is a great part of the experience. Food was very very good.

Sushi - delivered - heaven! This is the place for great variety, great flavor, great service, and even better delivery in Maple Grove. There is nothing better than winding down from your wired work day in the city by calling Mt. Fuji on your way home. Setting the time of delivery (and they have always been right on time for me) so you can meet them as you are getting out of your car.... walk in and begin!

When we want to go out for a decent dinner we pick here. There is one other sushi bar we do like better but It's in the warehouse section of Minneapolis. So we go to Maple Grove about once a month. We usually talk with the sushi chef who can hook us up with the freshest of the day. I've noticed the wait staff is far more attentive when we chat with the chef. Sometimes the language barrier makes us want to learn Japanese. I've had just about everything on the menu along with sake, beer, and mixed drinks. We've never been disappointed. My husband likes sushi far more than I do so it's wonderful that I can order things from the habachi. Again, not disappointed. We are confident enough about the place we bring out of town visitors here.

the hibachi dinners arent that great the meat is dry. the rolls are okay , i only go there when i really crave sushi and i dont want to go downtown. their deep fried ice cream is delicious, but they never wanna make it. i highly recommend the salmon roll & golden dragon rolls . its amazing ! the service, is okay. it could have been better. the servers are fricken fob.

  • Rachel J.

  • Kevin B.

Should be zero stars...Just walked out after sitting an hour at a grill with no service...do not go here...terrible service...can't tell you about the food as after an hour waiting without food or drinks we got up and walked out.

Fried rice is a good alternative to the hibachi if you don't need the soup and salad--at a great price, too.

They were having problems with their air exchanger for their hibachi and it was like sitting on a patio on a cold October night. We had to move table 2 times to find a place that didn't have a draft. The sushi was great but wish I had my parka that night.

Not the tastiest. The sushi needed a sauce to taste good. The steak was good but not great at the price point.

They do not deliver?? They said they had stopped delivering food for over a year now. I said well you should take that down from your website.
